Zina Sofer - Melbourne based Visual Artist
The quest for home, belonging and identity are the drivers behind the works here exhibited, in which Zina looks to her two interrelated passions, architecture and landscape, for response.
She engages with these passions through the layers of her lived life as a Jew in an often hostile diaspora, and, as a queer person lacking the accepted cultural foundations that provide the guidelines for homing, belonging and thus identity.
Her work in architecture, the constructed reality is where she demonstrates her ability to capture the essence of the constructed world.
In her work in landscape, she expresses her powerful experience of connection and unconditional belonging.
Together, as two sides of one coin, they provide a response to her quest for home, belonging and identity.
